If you have ever needed to file your ITR, apply for a fresh loan, or sort out a wrong entry on your credit report, chances are someone asked you for one document: your personal loan statement. It sounds like paperwork, but it's actually one of the best and most useful pieces of paper (or PDF) a borrower can have on hand.

And the good news is that you can download the personal loan statement online by a simple process, and it takes hardly 2-3 minutes to download once you know where to download it.

In this blog, we’ll walk through every single process to download the personal loan statement online across net banking, mobile apps, and lenders' websites. Along with what the document contains and why it is protected by password and when you will actually need it.

What is a personal loan statement?

A personal loan statement, sometimes called a "personal loan account statement," is a detailed record of your loan from the day it was disbursed to the current date; it typically includes

  • Loan disbursement details: sanctioned amount, disbursement date and tenure

  • EMI breakup: how much of each installment went towards outstanding principal vs. interest charged.

  • Personal loan repayment statement: a month-wise log of every EMI paid, on time or delayed.

  • Outstanding loan balance: the amount of principal still needed to repay.

  • Processing charge, prepayment details, and any penal or bounce charges.

  • Personal loan account number and other identifying details.

How to download personal loan statement online

Most banks and NBFCs follow a broadly simple process, whether you are checking a loan with HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, or any NBFCs like Tata Capital or Bajaj Finance.

Through net banking/customer portal

1.       Log in to your bank's net banking portal or the NBFC's customer/loan portal using your registered user ID and password

2.       Navigate to the "Loans" or "Loan Accounts" section from the dashboard

3.       Select the personal loan account you want the statement for

4.       Look for an option labelled "Statement," "Account Summary," or "Transaction History."

5.       Choose the date range pick "Since Disbursement" or "All" if you need the complete loan account statement

6.       Click download, and the statement will save as a PDF loan statement to your device

Through the Mobile banking app

1.       Open your bank's or NBFC's app and log in

2.       Go to "Loans" under your "Accounts" section

3.       Select the relevant loan account

4.       Tap "Loan Statement" or "Account Statement."

5.       Pick the duration: last 6 months, one year, or a custom range

6.       Download or email the statement directly from the app’

This is usually the quickest way to get a personal loan statement from bank app, and it works just as well for an EMI statement download as it does for the full account statement without needing a desktop at all

Personal loan statement through mobile app vs. desktop:

If you only need last month's EMI payment history, the app is faster. For a full loan account statement download covering several years, say, for ITR or foreclosure purposes, the desktop net banking site tends to offer more flexible date-range filters than the app. If you'd rather not log into a portal at all, most lenders also allow you to download a loan statement from the website directly, using just your loan account number and registered mobile number for OTP verification, without a full net banking login.

If you don't have net banking access, some lenders, particularly NBFCs, let new loan customers register on a separate loan-only portal using their loan account number, date of birth, and last EMI amount paid; no saving account is required. This is common when you are trying to download a personal loan statement from NBFCs where you are a loan-only customer.

Personal Loan Statement for Closed Loan

Are you concerned that after the loan is closed, your statement may vanish? It doesn't. A personal loan statement for a closed loan is still available since lenders keep loan account records for a number of years after the loan is ended. Enter your login information, search for closed loans in the loan department, and download it in the same manner as if you had an active account. You can contact customer service by phone or email with your loan account number if the closed account is no longer visible in your online portal.

This is particularly useful if you need a personal loan foreclosure statement confirming the final settlement amount and closure date, which many people request when applying for a new loan and being asked to prove an old one is fully paid off. Alongside the statement, it's worth also downloading the loan closure certificate (sometimes called a No Objection Certificate or NOC). This is the document that formally confirms the lender has no further claim on the account, and it's often asked for separately from the transaction statement itself.

Why is your loan statement password protected?

Almost every personal loan statement PDF you download or receive by email will be locked. This is a standard practice: RBI data security guidelines require banks and NBFCs to encrypt statements sent digitally since the file contains sensitive financial information.

The personal loan statement password format varies slightly by lender but usually follows one of these patterns:

●        First four letters of your name (as per loan records) + date of birth in DDMM format

●        Date of birth in DD/MM/YYYY format

●        First four letters of your name + last four digits of your loan or account number

The precise format is typically shown on the download page or specified in the email you receive with the statement. It's important to confirm if the letters in your password should be capital or lowercase if it doesn't work. This is case-sensitive and is specified by the majority of lenders.

What If Your Loan Statement Isn't Available Online?

If you can't locate the download option or the portal doesn't show your loan account:

●       Check if you're logged into the correct portal. Some lenders run a separate loans-only portal apart from regular net banking

●        Confirm your registered email ID is active, since some lenders only send statements via email on request rather than showing a direct download button

●        Call customer care with your loan account number handy; this is a routine request and is usually processed within a few working days

●        As a last resort, visit your home branch with ID proof.
